Over tourism is a huge problem that causes negative social and environmental impacts such as increasing air and land pollution. Over tourism is the congestion of visitors in a particular destination. The travel industry is a big industry which focuses on growth which is one of the causes of over tourism. Due to the fact that the industry aims at increasing the number of visitors and tourism dollars, they fail to consider the overall impact this may have. Over tourism doesn’t just have a negative social and environmental impact but it also affects residents of the destination. Often residents are forced to moved to more rural areas which in turn affects their living condition. If residents now have to move to rural areas, there’ll be a need for new infrastructure and roads which will also affect the ecological footprint. In order to improve these conditions the government and leaders in the local communities should find ways to control the inflow of tourists. Ways in rich they could do this are: raising prices, issuing permits, banning cruises over a certain size etc (“Overtourism,” n.d.).
